• Please be on hand to participate in the 12th point of our Scout Law, "A Scout is Reverent", as we provide our chartered sponsor with our traditional "thank you."
• All scouts are expected to attend. Scouts will be ushers, attend the service, and they will set up, serve, and clean up the brunch.
• Parents are encouraged to be on hand to help cook if they are available. See Mr. Athanasidy or the SPL.
• Parents who will be cooking arrive at 7:00 a.m. to cook sausage, bacon, and pancakes.
• Need two shifts of parent volunteers, one shift to set up and another shift to clean up.
• The Flying Squirrels, Prisims, & Dr. Gas should be on hand at 7:30 a.m. to set up tables and chairs.
• The Wookies, Vapire Teddybears, & Cobra patrols will help clean up.
• All other adults not planning on helping to set up, please be on hand by 9:30 a.m.
• Brunch will begin at approximately 9:45 a.m., after the 8:30 a.m. service and before the 11:00 am service.
• Wear full official uniform, including merit badge sash, excluding hat.
• Scouts who have earned a religious emblem should wear their medallion. "The universal religious square knot is worn over the left shirt pocket of the Scout uniform. The medallion is pinned over the square knot for full uniform occasions."
• Official placement of insignia on a Boy Scout official uniform or Scout Leader (male and female) official uniform.
• The Boy Scouts of America's Insignia Guide states, "A merit badge sash is never worn on the belt."

The unit leader must also certify that the nominee meets all specified requirements at the time of this annual election."
• "Question: . . How is Scout spirit defined and determined?
Answer: Scout spirit applies to how a Scout lives and conducts his daily life. He shows Scout spirit by being a role model to his peers, living by the Scout Oath and Law. The concept of Scout spirit is not based on how many Scouting events or outings a Scout attends, but rather by how he helps bring out the best in others as a reflection of his own character and attitude in his daily life."
• "Youth membership qualifications. All members of, or candidates for membership in, the Order of the Arrow who are under 21 years of age shall be considered youth members or candidates for youth membership, subject to meeting the following requirements:
• Be a registered member of the Boy Scouts of America
• Hold the First Class rank of the Boy Scouts of America, as a minimum.
• After registration with a troop or team, have experienced 15 days and nights of Boy Scout camping during the two-year period prior to the election. The 15 days and nights must include one, but no more than one, long-term camp consisting of six consecutive days and five nights of resident camping, approved and under the auspices and standards of the Boy Scouts of America. The balance of the camping must be overnight, weekend, or other short-term camps."
• "Candidates for youth membership shall be elected by other youth members in accordance with policies set forth by the national Order of the Arrow committee."
• Adult Membership Qualifications
• "All members of, or candidates for membership in, the Order of the Arrow who are 21 years of age or older and who are registered members of the Boy Scouts of America shall be considered adult members or candidates for adult membership. Individuals shall be selected as candidates based on the following:
• Adult leaders in units: Each year, upon holding a troop or team election for youth candidates that results in at least one youth candidate being elected, the unit committee may nominate one adult to the lodge adult selection committee, composed of the lodge adviser, the chairman of the council committee on which the lodge adviser serves, and the lodge staff adviser. Troops or teams having more than 50 registered active youth members may nominate an additional adult for every 50 registered, active youth, or fraction thereof. For example, a troop having 51 to 100 registered, active youths may nominate two adults each year if at least one youth has been elected. Recommendations of the adult selection committee, with the approval of the Scout executive, serving as Supreme Chief of the Fire, will be candidates for induction, provided the following conditions are fulfilled:
• Selection of the adult is based on the ability to perform the necessary functions to help the Order fulfill its purpose, and not for recognition of service, including current or prior achievement and positions.
• The individual will be an asset to the Order because of demonstrated abilities that fulfill the purpose of the Order.
• The camping requirements set forth for youth members are fulfilled.
• The adult leader's membership will provide a positive example for the growth and development of the youth members of the lodge."
• Induction
• "The induction process, called the Ordeal, is the first step toward full membership in the Order. During the experience, candidates maintain silence, work on camp improvement projects, and sleep apart from other campers. The candidate is expected to use this time to strengthen his involvement in the unit and encourage Scout camping."
• Brotherhood Membership
• "After 10 months of service as an Ordeal member and after fulfilling certain requirements, a member may take part in the Brotherhood ceremony, which places further emphasis on the ideals of Scouting and the Order. Completion of this ceremony signifies full membership in the Order."

  • Over 50 top rope stations and tons of lead climbing.
  • Over 2500 sq. ft of bouldering with top-outs.

  • This is a great opportunity for our boys under the age of 14 to get a “taste” of High Adventure Scouting!  Please take advantage of it!

• THREE FORMS are required to register (registration form, and Part A and C of the BSA medical form). All three forms in fillable format are on Ktemaque Lodge's Forms web page at www.Ktemaque.org/forms.html.  Remember to mail your registration form, medical forms (two pages), and payment before the Friday March 23th postmark deadline.
• Join us for our Lodge Fellowship Weekend on March 30- April 1, 2012 at Durland Scout Reservation.  All youth and adult members are invited.  New members are especially encouraged to attend.  It is too much fun to miss!  Unlike most Lodge events we participate in, the only people we are serving this weekend are OURSELVES!!  We're together to have fun, laughs, and lots of delicious food that will be cooked by the adults!  
• This is also a great opportunity for Ordeal members eligible for Brotherhood to complete their Brotherhood Quest, which is different from the Ordeal.  Brothers wanting to do their Brotherhood Quest must mark that on their registration form and MUST be present for the entire Saturday program from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.  The requirements are simple:

• - Ten month's service as an Ordeal member
• - Registered active membership in Scouting
• - Registered active membership in the Order of the Arrow
• - Memorization of the Obligation, the OA Song, and the Admonition (See your "Order of the Arrow Handbook")
• Pick up Sunday at 9:30 a.m. at the Jones Cabin

• Saturday, April 28: Hike the "Colonial Philadelphia Tour" portion of the BSA "Colonial Patriot Award".
• Sunday, April 29: Hike the 9 mile BSA "Valley Forge Historical Trail" and complete the requirements to earn the medal, and go to the World of Scouting Museum in Valley Forge.
• We shall camp at the Scout tent camping area at the Valley Forge Volunteer Fire Company in Valley Forge.
• Read this if you plan to go.
• Cost:
• Fee of $35 per person covering the campsite, all admissions, and Saturday supper.
• Parking: $20 per car in Philadelphia.
• Cost of driving our cars plus the food we pack.
• Pennsylvania Troop Trip.  Sign up and pay $35 by Apr. 9.
• Give a signed Permission Slip for scouts whose parents are not going, to Mr. A.

Meetings

Troop Meetings

• Mondays, 7:30 - 9:00 p.m.
• Location: Grace Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall, 3830 Gomer St., Yorktown Heights (except no meetings mid-June to mid-Sept.).
• Bring your Boy Scout Handbook, paper, and a pencil or a pen.
• Turn off your cell phone.
• Troop meetings are not held when the Lakeland Central School District is closed.
• On some holiday Monday's we may chose to have informal meetings, the web site calendar will be updated.

New Scout Patrol Meetings

• Tuesdays. 5:00 - 6:30 p.m. (Fall: Sept-Nov & Spring: Apr-Jun)
• Location: The Lodge at Bill T.'s house. See address in the password-protected pages.
• Leader: Mr. Bill T. if you have questions. In an emergency, call his cellular phone.
• Why meet Tuesday?
  • Primarily these Patrol Meetings are for older scouts to help younger scouts with rank advancement.
  • The Troop leadership (older scouts and adults) are responsible for helping a new scout obtain First Class rank.
  • These patrol meetings give young scouts the opportunity to practice and learn new skills.
• Bring Boy Scout Handbook and a filled water bottle.
• Consider bringing a camp stool to sit on.
• Dress for the weather.
• Parents should make sure that there is an adult present before leaving.
• Patrol meetings are not held when the Lakeland school district is closed.

• New Rank Requirements, effective January 1, 2010 to go in the 2010 Boy Scout Requirements book and the Centenial Edition of the Boy Scout Handbook.
  • Tenderfoot
    • A Scout must teach another person how to tie a square knot using the EDGE model (explain, demonstrate, guide, and enable).
    • He must also be able to discuss four specific examples of how he lived the points of the Scout Law in his daily life.
  • Second Class
    • Scout must discuss the principles of Leave No Trace and explain the factors to consider when choosing a patrol site and where to pitch a tent.
    • He must explain what respect is due the flag of the United States.
    • He must again discuss four examples of how he lived four different points of the Scout Law in his daily life.
    • He must earn an amount of money agreed upon by the Scout and his parents and save at least 50 percent of it.
  • First Class
    • An additional requirement to the 10 separate troop/patrol activities states he must demonstrate the principles of Leave No Trace on these outings.
    • He must discuss four more examples of how he lived the remaining four points of the Scout Law in his daily life.
  • Life
    • A Scout must use the EDGE model to teach a younger Scout a specified skill.
  • Star, Life, and Eagle
    • Troop Webmaster and Leave No Trace trainer are two new leadership positions.
